National Train Day is on May 10, 2008 - Get your
choo-choo on!
The first-ever National Train Day is on its way, and
there’s never been a better time to celebrate. With passenger ridership growing
every year, more and more people recognize that trains are the best way to
relax and enjoy the ride.
WHAT IS NATIONAL TRAIN DAY?
On May 10, 1869, in Promontory Summit, Utah, the “golden spike” was driven into
the final tie that joined 1,776 miles of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific
railways, ceremonially creating the nation’s first transcontinental railroad.
And America was transformed.
To raise awareness of the vital role rail plays in our nation’s transportation
system, Amtrak will celebrate its first annual National Train Day during six
weeks of celebrations culminating on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Seattle's King
Street Station will be hosting an event from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM with
refreshments, live music and entertainment. For more information on National
Train Day and planned events, visit
www.NationalTrainDay.com. Event details will be announced as they
become available.
