Oregon City is located about 15 miles southeast of
Portland, Oregon, and is the oldest incorporated city west of the Rockies. The
city is rich in historical homes and buildings, and hosts several interpretive
centers and museums dedicated to celebrating the pioneer spirit.

Walk across the street
to the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. The site of the center is
often identified as the end of the Barlow Road portion of the Oregon Trail. A
living history interpreter guides visitors around the center.

Visit the Museum of the Oregon Territory
and see exhibits of Clackamas County history. The museum boasts one of
America’s first long distance electric transmissions and an immigrant wagon
fully loaded for the Oregon Trail.

Tour a 1908 classical Foursquare style house.
The Stevens Crawford House was owned by the original family until 1968 and
contains much of the period furniture in the 15 rooms, including a working
kitchen, living room, bedrooms, dining room and doll collection.

Visit the Carnegie Center,
which houses an art gallery, children’s museum and coffee shop. The Carnegie
Center Art Gallery displays and sells work of some of the Northwest’s finest
artists. Artwork is displayed in the beautiful main floor gallery space.
Exhibits change monthly and feature a variety of original paintings, ceramics,
fiber art and glass, and group and theme shows.

See the first multi-lift navigation locks built in the United States at
Willamette Falls Locks. The locks are on the National Register of Historic
Places. The Army Corps of Engineers operates both the locks and an historical
visitor center at no charge to the public.
